4H Project
We are beginning our 10th year as leaders of the 4H llama project in Pierce County Wisconsin.  Our group has grown from 4 members in 1998 to 30+ members signed up for the 2008 year.

The llama project gives kids from 3rd grade through 20 years of age the opportunity to learn history, care, and training of llamas.

Llamas are loaned, by us, to 4H'ers that do not own their own.  Loaned llamas remain at our farm.  Llamas owned by 4h'ers come to our farm where 4H'ers meet to learn skills in handling, training, grooming and showing.

The 2008 Project Year starts in January with an organization meeting for new members.  There are meetings in February and March for the members to complete their project books.  The project books teach the members, history, anatomy, and care of llamas.

Fiber workshops are held the first Saturday of the month, January through March.  These workshops allow the members to learn what they can do with llama fiber: needle felting, wet felting, spinning, weaving, dyeing, etc.

Meetings are held bi-weekly in April and May on the farm where we work on training llamas and members.  Starting with haltering and walking with llama, catching llama in catch pen, we progress to showmanship and performance training.

Weekly meetings are held June, July and August until the Pierce County Fair the second week in August.

Additional optional activities include:  Northern Wisconsin State Fair in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, Washington County Minnesota Llama Show and Minnesotat State Fair.  Visits to nursing homes and a picnic hike are other possible activities.
